Austin is a great place to live, especially given the wide variety of Austin neighborhoods from which to choose. The Austin environment is laid-back and casual, with a diverse culture, and the town is bursting with opportunity. More than one hundred technical companies have made Austin a tech-savvy town. Consider, too, the many local universities that attract young people, many of whom decide to stay and raise families after graduation. The music industry has deep roots in this community and continues to thrive. As if all that weren’t enough, Austin is also the capital of Texas, and as such is home to many community leaders. All this diversity guarantees a wide variety of neighborhoods for Austin, as well as interesting smaller towns nearby. Today, we will discuss two very special nearby communities.
- Georgetown: The county seat of Williamson County, this lovely town was built along the banks of the San Gabriel River, thirty minutes from central Austin. Despite a recent growth spurt, Georgetown still has the small-town charm that makes it so appealing. Opportunities to enjoy the gorgeous Texas Hill Country abound, from Lake Georgetown and Inner Space Caverns, to multiple parks and golf courses. That does not mean the town is out in the middle of nowhere, though – shopping, dining, and cultural opportunities abound. In addition, the first university founded in Texas is located in Georgetown, and Southwestern University still houses a vibrant student body.
- Buda: Located about twenty minutes south of Austin, Buda is home to the very highly regarded Hays ISD public school system. Families find Buda an affordable option, because homes cost less than those in Austin. First settled in the 1880s, Buda began as an agricultural community. Today, it is a thriving little town, a safe and comfortable place to raise a family near some beautiful countryside. Known as the outdoor capital of Texas, it is a charming small town with big plans for the future.
